Bosnia and Herzegovina
Wasn't expecting to really, really love Mostar just as I wasn't expecting to scale a wall and explore a dilapidated, former sniper tower in a mini skirt. But there you have it, travel for the unexpected, the surprising and a new perspective. Sensible footwear helps too.
Bosnia and Herzegovina still wears the damage from the Bosnian War in the early nineties (1992-1995). The city of Mostar is a very old city with a very famous bridge and a violent not so distant past. It was humbling to explore the Sniper Tower, filled with politically charged graffiti in several languages, abandoned stairwells and floors with glass shatters reshaped into heart mosaics. The building's energy was hopeful, with hues from a violent past and a future that demands change.
